Step 1

Learn Your State's Requirements

You can view all of the current state requirements right on our website. We also provide links to the various state licensing bodies for applications, ect.

Step 2

Research Training Options

Although we at NIHI feel that we are your best training option, you should investigate the school that you decide to train with. Look for state approvals (if required), alumni testimonials and the overall quality of training. This is a new career move, don’t fall for the cheapest price.

Step 3

Get Trained

If training is required by your state, get the proper amount of training. If you are in an unlicensed, or unregulated state, you may want to consider training anyway. Home inspection is a skilled trade and proper training is a must.

Step 4

Take An Exam

Once training is completed, it’s time to test your skills. Some states require prospective home inspectors take the NHIE (National Home Inspectors Exam), some have their own state sponsered exam and others have no requirement at all. NIHI offers an exam for challenging your skills and knowlege.

Fill Out Your States Application

You Did It!

After completing all of the steps required by your state for licensing, sit back and wait for your license to be approved. After you are notified that your state licence is approved, its time to Celebrate! You are now a Home Inspector!
