Field Training Process
Where Knowledge Meets Real-World Application
At NIHI, field training is where your education comes to life. You’ll shadow licensed inspectors on live home inspections for real clients — gaining firsthand experience in professional techniques, report writing, and client interaction.
During each inspection, you’ll:
Observe the inspection process start to finish
Take notes and photos
Write and submit a PDF report for review
Receive feedback to strengthen your next report
This process builds real confidence, step by step.
The Credit System Explained
Our field training operates on a credit-based system to keep scheduling fair and efficient:
You begin with 1 credit to book your first inspection.
After submitting your report, you earn another credit to book the next inspection.
This continues until you’ve completed a minimum of 12 inspections.
Inspections are available six days a week, with multiple opportunities per day.
Each session is limited to one student per inspection, ensuring personalized learning and full engagement.
For full details, refer to the Field Training Guidelines section of your Enrollment Agreement.

Field Training Process
NIHI has an online field training schedule that Students will be given access to. The inspections are live, for an actual home purchase client. This is the Students opportunity to shadow a mentor and see the home inspection process in action. Students will write a report for each inspection attended (minimum of 12) and submit them in .PDF form for review and comment. We will be looking for Students to implement any necessary changes in the next report.
Our field training appointments work on a credit system for booking. All Students receive 1 credit initially. This credit is used to book an appointment. Once a report is submitted for review, another credit is issued to the Student. This will allow the Student to book another inspection. Inspections are 6 days a week and there are usually multiple inspections available per day. They are booked at 1 Student per inspection on a first-come, first-served basis. There is more in this in the “Field Training Guidelines” section of the enrollment agreement.
